Why do I keep doing this?

It is impossible to canon-pick New Amsterdam.
So I'm writing a fic. Supposed to be the aftermath of the events of Legacy, picking up sometime after Samantha left.
Someone who has seen the episode, tell me what season it looks like to you. I'm guessing anything other than winter, what with Rosie and Dutch wandering in and out without an overcoat and the amount and quality of light coming in the windows.
The Armory Show was in February/March. *headdesk headdesk headdesk*
Do I re-set to summer 1912, which screws with what i want to do, assume January despite the canon evidence which is wrong anyway, or just gloss over it as canon essentially did? I'm going to have to do the latter, I think, but so annoying.
Doubly annoying because of course I spent a good couple hours this morning with Patrick O'Brian, whom I can trust implicitly.
why do I keep finding canon that annoys me by not adhering to actual history?
