Judy's having a Game of Thrones party in October, so obviously I have to go, right? Which means I need a costume. And why do just any costume when I can be Brienne of Tarth?

In the pink dress. Pre-bear, because we're at dinner. that way I can be Brienne and still make a pretty.

The good part about the bear pit is that we get some decent looks at the entire costume, including the back. And the arms in motion. Why did I pick the thing with so freaking many eyelets?

Since it's the big sale at JoAnn this weekend, I bought all my materials, which I think I'm going to have to tea dye into submission. It is a very pink dress, a warm pink in the candlelight of dinner, and since I was never going to find two matching fabrics of the right texture, I'm having to do a lace overlay instead of the rough brocade of that bodice inset. Which was thoroughly doable, but had to be either baby pink, too purple, or crazy bright but in the right family. So I have seven yards of crazy bright flannel (because who can afford the original velvet when you're not on a costume department budget) that I've got to figure out how to dull up.

Intend to use the new Simplicity Game of Thrones pattern as a base but with serious modifications: neckline, sleeve falls, and adding a waistline. The silhouette is right, but the details are wrong (the old one had just as many problems, so my $1 is perfectly decently spent). Shouldn't be too difficult to redraw, really.

I'm all excited for this now, but we'll see what happens once I actually get into it.

(Yes, I am still on board with Game of Thrones. I'm treating it as medieval history I can't look up to get spoilers for, and I've been thrilled to have so little weird fantasy shit so far this season. Though I am a bit curious about dragons vs. whitewalkers, as that's about the only use either of them have.)
