HSM February - Blue!
Feb. 28th, 2015 05:07 pmI'm half-assing the post, and the deadline. See previous entry for picture.
The Challenge: Colour Challenge - make an item that features blue, in any shade from azure to zaffre
Fabric: poly taffeta, cotton bedsheet for lining
Pattern: JP Ryan Pet-en-l'Air/Française
Year: Aiming 1760s
Notions: plastic zip ties for boning, plenty of polyester thread, (eventually, a ton of trim), cotton twill tape
How historically accurate is it? Pattern is decent, materials definitely not.
Hours to complete: Who knows, because it isn't done! The dress is hemmed, but the petticoat is tomorrow's project, and then I'm spending all of March on trim. We're going with the "extended" timeframe and considering the February accomplishment to be what you see in the previous entry but hemmed.
First worn: To be done for the Française dinner on March 28
Total cost: Nearly $100, and I'm using cheap materials. Under $3.50 a yard on the fabric; $1.50 a yard on the silver trim. 13 yards of fabric and 20 of trim adds up fast. Put in some additional for the lace for the engageantes (not started yet), and shipping, and this thing is already crazy expensive using really cheap poly.
March's Stashbusting challenge is decidedly getting pushed to December Re-Do, since I'm spending the entire month on trim. Will pick challenges back up in April.
