Ok, so I've known for ages I really need to actually work out, and yesterday I finally bit the bullet and, uhm, tried.

Damn, I did not realise I was *that* out of shape.

What was supposed to be 15 minutes of intervals degenerated into 10 minutes of "Oh god, I'm gonna die of exhaustion and dehydration", so I went inside and drank a bunch of water. And then felt like a pansy so I went back out for another 5 minutes or so and still thought I was gonna die, but I felt better for having done the 15 minutes even if it did have a 5 minute break in there. And then took a cold shower because the sweat was pouring off me.

One minute intervals. Jogging, not full-on running.

Tonight, with the thunderstorms on and off, I though I'd get out of it. Then, there was a break in the rain, so I got in about 10 minutes worth before the sprinkling turned just harder enough I figured I had better go in before it starts pouring. Which it isn't yet, dammit, but I also really don't like getting wet. So I only got in 6 when I wanted 8, but 6 was the bare minimum I allotted for not feeling like a pansy, so there's that.

Of course, with the rain, it was a lot cooler out there and that definitely helped. I could have finished if the rain hadn't picked up, but it really wasn't going to feel good.

I figure, if I can manage 15 minutes every evening I don't have anything planned after work, and at any time of day on weekends, this should give me the 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week that the CDC recommends (that'd be 15 minutes 5 days a week). Also, as soon as the heat comes down, I need to start relying more heavily on Giant and Whole Foods for groceries in order to get more walking in and some carrying. Unfortunately, Trader Joe's has the good fat-free yogurt with no thickening additives, but I should really be relying less on the car than I have been. The heat was a brilliant excuse to be lazy and occasionally drive to the farmers' market, which should never happen because it's in downtown Silver Spring. I got this apartment so I could walk up there!

Unfortunately, for the foreseeable future, I'm going to be sitting down and getting up like an old lady. Ow my thighs.

By the time it gets too cold for jogging outside, hopefully I'll be in better-enough shape for the gym. Meaning able to do longer stretches that will make using the machines worthwhile. (Yes, we have a gym in my complex. This was a selling point when I moved here. Uhm, yeah, we see how that worked out.)
