Really stupid Facebook question

If I've got a couple of apps, and updates I make in them don't appear on my activity, and the apps themselves no longer appear on my profile page thanks to the new profile, what is the point of the apps at all? Does Facebook no longer want to support these kinds of apps in general? The new profile confuses me!

(issue is Stage Door; I think Visual Bookshelf is dead. The non-posting to recent activity has been a thing for ages, but now that no one can see it except me, the point of doing this tracking publicly is completely lost.)
