And I am going to bed.

But OMG, landslide. I don't really want to go so far as to say I'm proud of my country because I always see that as weird and condescending, it's more that I have renewed faith that our better angels (instead of the hateful crap of Prop 8 - dude, WTF?) will eventually prevail. They did today, in some respects, at any rate.

(the Prop 8 returns really cast a pall over a squeeful night - and yes, we did switch over to Fox News for a bit in order to see them look like Obama had just kicked their puppies.)

Also, Gene Robinson's column on election day made me cry. "It's not that I would have calculated the odds of an African American being elected president and concluded that this was unlikely; it's that I wouldn't even have thought about such a thing." This is what had me crying multiple times tonight. The meaning of it is how a sense of possibility has changed in the past two years. And that we succeeded. (Also, Chris Matthews, you're not black, so STFU about it and let Gene talk if you want MSNBC viewers to hear all about what this means in terms of African Americans.)

YES WE DID!!!!

I'm going to bed, really, but you people actually voted for crazy Michelle Bachmann after she stated, with multiple chances to back the hell out, that the press should investigate anti-American members of Congress.

I realise there are other issues in play other than that she's rubbish at giving interviews, but Christ, you really thought Tinklenburg would be worse?

Also, my sympathies to every sane person in California. This really takes a lot of the happy out of tonight.

(yes, going to bed now, for real)
